I’ve been doing photography for almost 10 years now and I’m still learning new techniques all the time! It all started when I was at Helston Community College and I took part in a photography competition ‘for fun’ not realsing that taking part, would make me fall in love with photography. I then saved up from working as a newspaper boy, to buy my first DSLR (Canon 1100d) after I found my small point and shoot camera was limiting me.
I started up my own market stall after leaving school, with help from Helston Town Council and Helston Business Improvement Partnership. Not only did I sell my own photographs, but I also sold photographs from local photographers in Cornwall. During that time, I also worked freelance for local and regional publications, getting my work published in The Daily Mail, myCornwall Magazine, BBC News and Packet Newspapers.
After 2 years of that, I was offered a full-time job as a website designer for a local design agency. I accepted! Even though during my time there, I lost my mojo from time to time for photography – it was soon found again when I became the official photographer for Helstonbury after they purchased a camera after mine broke and I couldn’t afford to repair or replace.
I was sadly made redundant from my job there after the company closed. I wanted to take my photography further so I applied to study Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University. I got accepted and started in September 2019. I’m due to finish the course in June 2022.
